Patients who are candidates for dental implants must possess a certain level of bone density to ensure the dentures remain firmly in place. If necessary, patients can undergo bone grafting to increase jawbone volume. For patients requiring only a lower denture, bone density is often not as critical. Typically, two or three implants are placed towards the front, where the bone is naturally more robust, to secure the lower teeth.

For the majority of patients, Dr. Dominguez offers bar-retained dentures. These dentures are secured with strong clips to a thin metal bar that conforms to the contour of the jaw. An alternative choice is ball-retained dentures, which feature ball-shaped implant attachments that snap into corresponding sockets on the appliance.

The possibility of receiving your new teeth on the same day of surgery depends on the number and placement of the implants. If immediate placement is not feasible, Dr. Dominguez can provide temporary teeth while your gums heal, which typically takes several months. Alternatively, he can modify your current dentures to attach to the implants in certain cases.

Your newly attached dentures are designed to be permanently fixed in place and can only be removed by your dentist.
