Tooth Extraction at Denta Care

Do I need an Extraction?

At Denta Care, tooth extraction is ONLY advised when it is deemed medically necessary. This occurs when a tooth is severely damaged and is beyond repair; often due to factors such as decay, injury or gum disease, which are among the most frequently cited reasons for this recommendation.

Frequently, we encounter patients seeking dental care due to pain. Despite our endeavor to preserve their tooth, on certain occasions, extraction is the only viable option

Primary causes of tooth extractions:

  • A severe infection that has caused considerable damage to both the tooth and the surrounding bone structure
  • Advanced decay that has rendered a tooth irreparable, hence precluding the possibility of a successful restoration
  • Overcrowding resulting from an excessive number of teeth that cannot be accommodated comfortably in the oral cavity
  • In the context of an injury, the term "impacted tooth" describes a tooth that either remains entirely below the gum line or only emerges partially
  • When a tooth fractures close to or at the gum line, there may be insufficient visible tooth structure to support a dental restoration, such as a crown. When this occurs, extraction of the tooth may become necessary
  • Neglected gum disease can be as detrimental to dental health as tooth decay, as the later stages of this condition can result in the deterioration of the supporting gum tissue, ligaments, and bone structure that hold the teeth in place

Do I need My Wisdom Teeth Extracted?

In many cases, patients lack sufficient space in their oral cavity for the proper emergence of their wisdom teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth can remain trapped or only partially emerge, leading to undesirable effects on neighboring teeth. Should our dentist conclude that wisdom tooth extraction cannot be performed within our facility, we will refer you to an oral surgeon for surgical extraction.

What Should I do After Getting My Tooth Extracted?

After a tooth extraction, our dentist will provide you with detailed instructions, but typically, for the first day, you should refrain from any action that may create suction in your mouth. This includes drinking through a straw, smoking, and other similar activities that could cause dislodging of the blood clot that forms at the extraction site. Additionally, you should avoid chewing or brushing near the site and limit strenuous activities for a day or two. You should also follow the dentist's advice on pain management and apply an ice pack to minimize any swelling.
